A 16TH-CENTURY FREE HOUSE

The bar

You do not have to eat. The bar stays open later than the kitchen serves.

Open Wednesday to Sunday

The Butchers Arms is a free house, and the bar is open to drinkers as well as diners. Bar hours run later than kitchen service — the bar is open until 11pm Wednesday to Saturday evenings, while the kitchen stops at 8.30pm. Being a free house means no brewery tie: what is on is chosen rather than supplied.

WHAT IS ON

Ales, and a wine list with some thought in it

The wine list is short by design and chosen to sit alongside the food rather than to look impressive on paper. If you would like a hand choosing, ask — that is what we are there for.

A proper pub that happens to cook like this.
“The pub has a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease.” — Nigel L, Tripadvisor, February 2026
